The cover carried the March 11, 1865 NEW YORK PRODUCED EXCHANGE REPORTER and PRICE CURRENT about a month fefore the end of the Civil War. There is no direct reference to the war except 'The advance of Sherman's Army toward Richmond increases the desire to sell 'provisions' (pork) and beef is inactive because of stronger prospects of squelching the rebellion" Cotton if freely quoted, so is New Orleans molasses. But the North had control of New Orleans and the river Mississippi three years before the surrender of the South. Gold exchange is slipping, probably anticipating peace, but $1.00 gold still costs $1.89. Items not quoted are always of interest: dyewoods, asheds, dried fruits, indigo, prairie chickens and 'egg oats' i.e. (oats that have been used for packing eggs for shipment.
